Sedation Assistant
With over 29 years’ experience in Paediatric Nursing, Sharon brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the world of Paediatric Dental Sedation. Her working career has been varied, however always dedicated to children’s needs both physical and psychological.
Starting in a Paediatric regional burns and plastic surgery unit she gained experience of intensive care for many years, after which she moved on to work in a general hospital on the paediatric ward and day surgery unit. This varied experience gave her confidence to move forward and attain a position in the community, to care for children with complex life limiting conditions in their own home, whilst supporting family.
Sharon attained a job in dental sedation 13 years ago as a sedation nurse, as a nervous dental patient herself Sharon has a great understanding and can empathise with both adults and children. Her role Supports the lead seditionist and dentist, assessing the need for sedation, the physical/psychological history of the patient, the best sedation choice, assisting and monitoring the patient throughout the procedure to safe discharge home. Every day is fulfilling and rewarding knowing a patient has completed their treatment and are happy,
Sharon belongs to several professional bodies including the Royal College of Nursing, The Association of Dental Anaesthetists and SAAD, attending annual conferences and maintaining continuing Professional development. Annual PILS and ILS has been ongoing throughout her career. Outside the working environment any spare time is enjoyed by cooking, exercise, travel and of course family.
